Summary: After discussing the living world around us and characteristics of living things, I will transition our Science Unit into looking at mammals as living things. I will begin discussion by telling the children that the North Carolina Zoo is looking for new types of mammals to put in a new exhibit. After learning what makes mammals special, each student will research a mammal of their choice. The student will create the habitat and the mammal in a diorama. They will publish a written report to go with their mammal including why the zoo should include this new mammal in their new exhibit. Students will show their understanding of mammals in general in a power point slide show presentation.
